Spring is so much fun at Halsey Schools!
Why do dogs wag their tails? Why do cats purr? Are rabbits & guinea pigs related? Why are some people afraid of rats and mice and others love them as pets? How the heck do fish breath underwater? When birds sing do other birds know what they are saying? We’ll be learning a lot more about pet animals this month.

Surprise Parent Readers Anytime: How would you like to be a surprise reader for our story times? You can schedule at your usual drop off time, pickup time or anytime in between. Don’t forget it’s a surprise, so don’t let the children in on the secret. You can come in dressed up as character from the story or just come as you are. It’s up to you the sky is the limit. Pajama Day, Dr Seuss Day, Read Across America 3/2: In honor of Dr. Seuss’ Birthday its National Read Across America day. Come to School in your pajamas all day long! So, please have your child wear his or her cozy PJs to school and bring in their favorite Dr. Seuss story to share with the class. All children; Infants, Toddlers & Preschoolers will join in on the fun! 10 Doctor Seuss Books your Child will LOVE!
Staff Development Training 3/3-4: Watch Me Fly! I’m Superman! – How to integrate risk-taking into our daily curriculum. | Every month our staff learns something new, takes a look at something old from a new perspective, reinforces and reinvigorates previous education and training, or just has some hands of fun through our regular training programs. Field Trip 3/19, 9:30 – 12:00: Warner Center Park, Lunch at School | 5800 Topanga Canyon Blvd, Woodland Hills, CA 91367 | 818-756-8060| Field trips are available for Busy Bees, Dragonflies, Penguins . If your child is in the Panda class, he/she may attend the trip if you or another designated adult join us. Parents are always welcome to attend and space is limited. Picture Day 3/26 & 27: Cheese! Time for our Spring pictures. | Thursday, March 26th; Infants, Tiny Tots & Toddlers. Friday, March 27th; Preschool. | Everyone will have their pictures taken by Julie Lilly Photography. If you like the pictures you can buy them. If not there is no obligation. Children can bring an outfit to change into for the pictures or they can come to school ready to go. Graduating Busy Bees will take their graduation pictures in full caps & gowns provided by the school. (If your child can’t make the designated day, let us know and we’ll make sure the pictures are taken on the other day.)
Bring hard boiled eggs 3/30: Please bring in 4 hard boiled eggs for our coloring and a cooking projects.
Assessments 3/30: you’ll receive your child’s written assessment. This month your child’s teachers will be carefully observing your child to assess for appropriate developmental milestones. Children develop at their own pace so the criteria we follow offers a broad age range for each milestone. Some children might reach a designated milestone at 7 months old. But others might reach it at 4 months or 10 months. Parent-teacher conferences will be available from April 6-10. Please look for the sign-up sheet in the office for available conference times or call 818-992-1942 to schedule.
Sheets & Blankets: All children must have a sheet & blanket for nap time everyday. Please make sure to send a sheet & blanket at the start of the week. Please have your child’s name printed on them.
Illness Policy: If your child has been sent home with a fever, he/she may return to school 24 hour after there has been no sign of a fever and no fever reducing medication has been given. By following this policy, we all can help to reduce the spread of illnesses. We appreciate your help.
Wear Sunscreen Everyday: It’s Sunscreen Time! If you’ve stopped applying daily sunscreen, it’s time to get back into the swing of things. Children (10 months- 6yrs) should come to school wearing an SPF 30 or more on all exposed areas of the skin. We also recommend wearing a hat. Extra sunscreen should be kept at school as well. We will be having a lot of outdoor fun! (Always consult your child’s physician.)
Spring Change of Clothes: Please make sure your child has at least one complete set of extra spring clothes & shoes. Don’t forget to label everything.
