Weekly Themes & Stories for October
Why do bats hang upside down? Can owls really turn their heads all the way around? Why do raccoons and skunks sneak around at night? Can opossums hang from their tails? This October we’ll be learning the answers to these questions and a lot more about bats, owls, raccoons, skunks, and opossums.

Discovery Days 10/09 & 10: Please join us for some hands-on learning fun with your preschool children. We will have different learning centers arranged in the Preschool’s backyard from 10:00 – 11:00. What will we be discovering? Come on in to find out!

Staff Development Training 10/14 – 10/15: Fitness Begins in Early Childhood. We will brush up on methods and techniques to help keep children active, aware and engaged in physical activities and appropriate food choices | Every month our staff learns something new, takes a look at something old from a new perspective, reinforces and reinvigorates previous education and training, or just have some hands on fun through our regular training programs. California ShakeOut 10/16: Annual World Wide Earthquake drill where millions of people including all of us at Halsey Schools practice & prepare for an earthquake. The imaginary earthquake hits at 10:16. Learn about our emergency plan here. Learn more about the ShakeOut here.
Cheese! Time for our Fall pictures, 10/16 – Infants, Tiny Tots & Toddlers | 10/17 Preschool: 8:30-12:00. Everyone will have their pictures taken by Julie Lilly Photography. If you like the pictures you can buy them. If not there is no obligation. Children can bring an outfit to change into for the pictures or they can come to school ready to go. (If your child can’t make the designated day, let us know and we’ll make sure the pictures are taken on the other day.)
On Campus Field Trip 10/21: 10:00-11:00 our annual on campus “Pumpkin Patch” for the Pandas (under 3), Toddlers, Tiny Tots & Infants. A great time for all when we bring pumpkins and fun for a pretend field trip.
Field Trip 10/21: 9:30 – 12:00 Pierce College Pumpkin Patch. Lunch at School | 20800 Victory Blvd., Woodland Hills, (818) 999-6300 | Please sign up here. | Field trips are available for Busy Bees, Dragonflies, Penguins . If your child is in the Panda class, he/she may attend the trip if you or another designated adult join us. Parents are always welcome to attend and space is limited. Halloween 10/31: Join us for our annual parade and a party on October 31st. Please see sign-up sheet in your child’s classroom for what you can bring. All children should wear or bring a costume to school and should have a change of clothes too. At 10:00, all children will parade to the Woodland Hills Retirement Center to visit our “adopted” Grandparents. Everyone will be dressed up, even our teachers.
Candy For Our Troops 11/1-07: Encourage your children to donate some of their Halloween candy to our troops. Just drop off the candy in our office or your child’s classroom. We can accept any candy collected door to door or in brand new bags from the 50% off after Halloween sales. We’ll ship the candy off to our troops in care packages with www.OperationGratitude.com. The children will add thank you cards and art work too.

Are your child’s vaccines up to date? Please make sure to give us a copy of your child’s immunization record every time immunizations are updated. All children at Halsey Schools are required to follow the CDC’s Immunization Schedule and provide proof with each update.
Illness Policy: We follow this written Illness Policy and make every effort to assure your child contracts as few illnesses as possible. However, most children and adults will contract at least one illness between now and April. Remember to wash your child’s hands everyday before leaving school or any other social event.
