Fun with Daddy

Halsey Schools Preschool Infant & Toddler Care in Woodland Hills

One of the best ways to be a great parent is to let yourself be a kid again. Here are some simple fun things you can do with your children this Father’s Day. They are all designed to be open ended. Let your children be your guide as you explore and learn together.

Math Skills & Language Arts:

Sort Nuts & Bolts & Screws – Just about everyone has a drawer full of extra nuts and bolts. Put them to good use with this simple project.  Just dump them out on a table or tray and start exploring. What nuts fit on which bolts? Use plastic cups or a cupcake tin to sort by length, by color by metal… The options and ideas are endless.

Art:

Rock Paperweight – Go for a walk or hike and hunt for the perfect rocks. Then bring them home and decorate them with paint, glitter, markers etc. You can write sayings, draw pictures, paint a solid color or stripes… After the rocks have dried glue cork or felt to the bottoms. Then put them on top of some paper!

Science Project:

PVC Pipes Exploration –  You just need some PVC pipes and connections. Take a field trip to Home Depot, Lowes, Franklin’s… and pick out the pipes and connections. Then bring them home and snap them together in different ways. You can make all kinds of shapes and configurations. Find a small ball and see if it will go through your home made roller coaster! Pour water through them. Blow water out the other end.

Take Something Apart – That old VCR or DVR sitting in your garage can be a lot of fun to explore. Make sure it is unplugged. Then spend some time taking it apart and putting it back together. Just unscrewing a couple of screws together can be a blast for your preschooler.

We hope you have a wonderful Father’s Day with your family.
